Kenner’s Star Wars Imperial Troop Transport Commercial

Released by Kenner in 1979, the Imperial Troop Transport (see it at 12back.com) was a great design that was partially-inspired by the movie and mostly created by the designers at Kenner. It appeared in the old Marvel Star Wars comics, tons of ads for the Star Wars toys that ran in comics, and even got its own cheesy commercial! Not bad for such an unusual looking vehicle.

  1. I think in the comic the troop transport appeared in–#32, “The Jawa Express!”–a transport loses a game of chicken with a sandcrawler, and the stormtroopers go falling out! Troop safety was never a big concern for the Empire…

  2. I dig the troop transport. This morning I put an article on Doom Kick about vintage Star Wars box art. The troop transport box was one I used for the post.

  3. I always wanted this vehicle out of all of the Star Wars offerings. I’ve unusual tastes when it comes to Star Wars lines and I think this would suit as it could fit in almost any other franchise as it’s not burned into memory that it’s an iconic Star Wars vehicle. It would suit as a BAT transport for my Joes. Gonna have to look into finding one methinks.

  4. @Orniphus – So many G.I. Joe toys would make awesome Star Wars toys that I sometimes don’t think about it in the opposite direction. I suggested a Joe vehicle that should be re-tooled as a Mini-Rig earlier this year — https://www.battlegrip.com/?p=46928 — and now I want to see the Transport decorated up for Cobra.
