Kickstarter – Joe Dever’s Freeway Warrior Adventure Gamebooks
If you’re a fan of Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf gamebooks (find at Amazon.com*) and want more then you will want to take a quick peek at the Freeway Warrior project on Kickstarter. Post-apocalyptic auto combat action, the Freeway Warrior books were first published back in the eighties (find at Amazon.com*), and now those books are being reprinted as hardcovers.
There has been quite the boom in auto combat games over the last year, and I suspect we can thank the success of Mad Max: Fury Road* for the post-apocalyptic boom. If the movie hadn’t been as fun as it turned out would we be seeing so many games today? Probably not.
Joe Dever’s Freeway Warrior is a Game Book series of four post apocalyptic adventures, where the mood is somewhere between Mad Max and John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath. In the Game Books, you take on the role of Cal Phoenix, and your mission is to help a group of survivors on an exodus from Texas, where food is running low, to California which is believed to have made it through the nuclear winter in better shape. You will face a lot of challenges along the way, not the least from the terrorist clans with ties to the organization who triggered the nuclear disaster. The small colony has to go west in order to survive, crossing the post apocalyptic wasteland of chaos och criminal gangs.
