Kidrobot Digs out the Cookie Cutter

The always awesome ToysREvil has a post today about Kidrobot’s upcoming Futurama Mini-Figures Series. Now I really enjoy the show, and tiny toys should always be neat, but these damned things are just too much like everything else I’m seeing. Where’s the heart? Where’s the style? Where’s the unique art that shows someone put some love into the project?

Maybe it’s because of my bad experience at the Kidrobot store earlier this year, someone there needs to realize that they’re supposed to be selling toys, but something feels lacking in just about everything this company has been doing. It’s as if they’ve settled into a comfortable groove — a profitable groove — and they’re not willing to try anything special. Just more of the same, rather than anything exciting.

Standard marketing and sales practices dominating designer toys and killing creativity.
