Lakeland, Florida 1979 Newspaper Article on Mattel Recall
When I went searching for old newspaper articles about the Battlestar Galactica series and toys it was this story I had expected to find. An accidental death when a young boy swallowed a toy missile led to the recall, and it’s this specific story that is often pointed at when discussing spring-loaded toy missiles and child safety. I kinda remember this story when it happened back in 1979, but I think what I remember most is that my parents seemed overly concerned about some of my toys that year.
It appears that Battlestar Galactica wasn’t getting the greatest press in 1979.
