M83’s “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”
I’ve been hearing — and absolutely loving — the single, “Midnight City,” from M83’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming* album for a couple of years now. I cannot exactly identify what the music reminds me of, but the sound is amazing and every single time I have heard the song — mostly on Sirius/XM — I stop and enjoy it and think “I should check that album out.”
(If someone ever said to me “That album came out in 1985.” I wouldn’t argue at all. I’d just assume that it had somehow managed to evade me for almost thirty years. It’s kinda like Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories* in that way . . . but it’s the only way I consider the albums to be similar to each other.)
Well, last week I finally broke down and grabbed the Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming* album . . . and I love it. Awesome, beautiful tracks and great to listen to while working (the album was playing all day for the last few days while I worked on editing photos, office mail, and a little writing). And as fun as “Midnight City” is, I think I like “Claudia Lewis” even more. Highly recommended if you enjoy these two tracks.
THANK YOU for bringing this album to my attention. I really liked “Midnight City” when I kept hearing it on the radio about a year ago and meant to to look it up, but then forgot and haven’t heard it in awhile. But now that you’ve pointed it out again and I’ve listened to a few other tracks, I love the way this album has taken some of the best ’80s musical sounds and blended them together into something new and inspiring. Album ordered!
You’re welcome, Kevin. I’m happy someone found some fun in the post. And it really is a great album. I think that if you like the two tracks I shared then you’ll find the entire album enjoyable.
