Masters of the Universe Classics Scareglow Drops Today
The new Masters of the Universe Classics action figure, Scareglow, drops today at noon eastern at the MattyCollector website. This latest release in the series is a villain, which means that I’m gonna try to score one for myself.
“In life, Nul was a shifty bounty hunter who spent years attempting to break into Castle Grayskull®, obsessed with the countless legends that it contained the power to be Master of the Universe. In death, he was cursed and banished into the dimension of Infinita, forever chained to his past crimes. He was brought back to Eternia® by a magical spell of light cast by Skeletor® to locate the most evil warriors in the five dimensions. Provided with a Scythe of Doom, Nul agreed to join forces with Skeletor® and quickly became known as Scareglowâ„¢, thanks to his ability to burst forth and freeze his enemies with fright.”
Yeah, this looks like a Masters of the Universe Classics action figure that should be a part of my collection of villains. I don’t have many releases in this series, but so far those I own are fun, well-designed toys. It’s just too bad that they’re so expensive and difficult to purchase.
Here’s hoping for a smooth, easy launch today.
I got on at about 11:30, had He-man and Scareglow in the shopping cart, but when it came down to it I just couldn’t hit the submit button. I think it is because I’m too afraid to fall in love with a line of figures that I can’t afford to collect. I’ll be looking forward to reviews of Scareglow, but I’m just too chicken to get him myself.
@Clark – That may have been the safest answer. At $30/each (the site says $20, but shipping still costs money) this can turn into a very expensive line.
Okay…maybe on of you toy insiders can help me out. I’m of the He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe generation. I had boxes of action figures…most of them now in pieces or buried.
I keep seeing these “classic” lines coming out for all these old toys. But I have two problems with them. 1) they’re expensive, and 2) they’re not original moldings.
The “re-issued” GI Joe figures are so not-original that they should barely earn the title of “classic” or “anniversary.”
I guess I wonder why Hasbro et al can’t just remake all the original figures and sell them for the $2/$3 they should be, and not the $10+ they are right now.
I understand the whole “collector” side and digging my generation for all the cash they can. I could settle for expensive if only these were original line re-releases. I’m not going to pay $10 for a toy that “looks like” a toy I had when I was kid.
@Redline Derby: I think the whole point of these “Classics” lines are to have new toys based on the originals updated to today’s standards with design, articulation, etc.
If you want the originals, Hasbro has been releasing Commemorative Editions of original G1 Transformers since 2000 I believe, as of right now G1 Perceptor and Insecticons are on shelves in TRU. Back in ’00 or ’01 I believe, Mattel also released Commemorative Edition MOTU figures: the original molds in special collector packaging. Yeah, they are expensive, the Classics Voyagers went for around $20, and the Classics Deluxes went for around $10. The price of MOTUC is still heavily debated and has caused much complaining amongst fans. The G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary line was along the same concept of releasing new/updated designs of the characters inspired by the originals. I really liked those as well. As far as prices, its just the way things are. What cost only $2 or $3 back in the ’80s now costs $8-10.
If you’re looking for the originals, they’re out there, just check E-Bay or other third party retailers like Brians Toys or Big Bad Toy Store, or even searching Amazon.
Well Phil, I own a Scareglow. I went ahead and put an opening bid on one from eBay, and won him for less than he would have cost me from Matty! Anyway, my fears have come true, because he is awesome, and now I must own a Skeletor later this month. I also ordered the re-issue of He-man since I like Scareglow so much. If I can hold myself to picking up just a few main figures then I might be okay, but I’m scared, my wallet is scared, but Scareglow does not scare me, I’m very happy to have him.
@Clark – You’re doomed now. Good thing is they are releasing Beast Man again in January.
