Masters of the Universe Classics Subscriptions and the Four Horsemen
The drama surrounding this year’s Masters of the Universe Classics subscription (A HREF=”https://www.battlegrip.com/?p=41283″>last mentioned here) has heated up a notch as the Four Horsemen (website, Twitter), the team behind the sculpting/prototyping of the series, has now weighed in with their own plea to fans to subscribe. (Matty Collector subscriptions page.) This is getting pretty exciting; Mattel might just be serious about killing the line if they’ve asked the artistic team behind the line to post to the web.
There’s lots of places you can read all about this. A few that jumped out at me as worth checking include:
- Poe Ghostal posted the storyand was the first site where I saw the word from the Four Horsemen.
- The Fwoosh has the same story. . . but hasn’t generated the comments that Poe’s post has.
- The Fwoosh also has a post by Veebee in which he encourages fans of the line to subscribe. Those amazing Masters of the Universeposters of the eighties also make an appearance in the post.
- It’s All True has a post by Noisy where he links to a Facebook post and mentions that he’s not concerned. With almost 200 comments as of this post there’s a lot of opinions to follow if you wanna see what others are thinking about the line.
I’ve never subscribed, do not plan to subscribe, and appear to be one of those “cherry pickers” that Mattel seems intent on driving away from the line. Too bad, but at least I should be able to get figures from other sites. I’ve recently noticed that a lot of the line is available for not much over Mattel’s prices (plus shipping) and I’ve had good luck scoring some of the toys I missed on Amazon (Amazon.com search*).
I hope the line continues, but not enough to subscribe. Still, it’s definitely been unusually entertaining to watch Mattel scramble to convince people to subscribe. I’m now anxious to see just what happens when the subscription page closes.

Maybe if the line didn’t cost and arm and a leg I would subscribe. Maybe if the line was broken down into He-Man / She-Ra / New Adventures, I would subscribe. Maybe if Mattel would’ve focused on core characters and not obscure & fan-made characters, I would subscribe. Maybe if they hadn’t killed off my beloved Stratos… I would’ve subscribed!
