Masters of the Universe Classics Third Party Skeletor Head
Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Classics series (Amazon.com search*) has made a lot of fans happy over the years, but as always happens there are gaps that Mattel has just never gotten around to filling. That’s where the unofficial toymakers step into the picture, and now there’s a brand new Skeletor head for all of you who would prefer a Filmation-style version of the blue mean.
The price for one head is $28, and for complete ordering instructions and more pics see this Action Figure Insider post. I knew that we would see the rise of a third party industry for Masters of the Universe, but I never thought it would be so slow in starting up . . . and I never expected that it would be such a tiny garage industry.

MOTUC Third-Party might be off to a slow start, but is that because MOTUC fans aren’t especially happy? Most of them seem to be collecting the line at this point almost grudgingly. That, and you were wondering about third-party Transformer price gouging; and the MOTUC is starting from a somewhat ridiculous price-point already.
(I’m only a casual MOTUC fan–the ones I got from Big Lots were great, but I wouldn’t have paid the SRP for them!)
I’m excited to see where the collecting world is headed. I can only imagine the hurdles you have to jump to produce this sort of product today. Once 3D printers become common, the possibilities will truly be endless. One-off toy accessories will be possible, and we will have the ability to make the ultimate, personalized action figure! I know the technology is out there now, but how great will it be when we can put our own faces on He-Man’s body? 😉
The head looks great and I know this is a “garage industry” but I think charging $28 for a head is pretty steep.
