More evidence that Mattel’s Masters of the Universe toyline was in trouble comes in the form of Spydor in this 1986 ToysRUs ad. 53% off is a pretty deep discount, and for a toy in the line that was only a year old to be offered at this sale price shows that something was wrong. Of course, I can say that easily with the three decades between now and when this ad was new, but the next time you see something on a pretty dramatic sale stop and ask: Is there something wrong with this product’s overall level of sales?
