Matt Doughty’s Twist Tie Toys

I have a confession to make. I’ve been sitting on these photos of twist tie custom toys for several months now, and the only reason I haven’t posted them before now is that I forgot they even existed. Glyos System (Onell Design) fans should pay attention, because what we’re going to look at now are a couple of Matt Doughty’s older custom action figures.

What you’re looking at are original sculpts over twist tie armatures. Matt is sitting on an unknown number of these creations, as well as more twist tie armatures, and every single one that I played with was rock hard and gorgeous. The limbs are are sculpted in parts and there’s enough play that the twist tie armature allows the figures to be posed in various positions. Think of these as designer bendy toys and you’re not too far from the mark.

The two figures I chose to photograph are related; the top photo shows both the character unarmored and armored. And the photo below shows the armored version with the helmet removed; yes, Matt sculpted a removable helmet for his bendy toy. And the fit is perfect . . . almost like it was custom made. Oh yeah, both of these were completely custom made.

Matt’s got more of these custom twist tie toys at his house and if I had the time I would have shot them all. But unfortunately every time I visit Matt there’s more that we want to do than there is time. So the best thing I can think of is to say that Matt should take photos of all of his twist tie toys and post them at the Glyos Transmission Web Log so that we can all enjoy his work. Anyone agree with me?
