Mego Hulk and Spider-Man Commercial

Lying beside my bed, and part of the evening reading, is a copy of Mego 8″ Superheroes: World’s Greatest Toys, a thick, hardcover book discussing the old Mego superhero series of the 70s . . . and loaded with tons of color photos. It’s a great book that gets a little too detailed at times, and it’s a good buy for anyone who loves these older superhero action figures.

What’s odd, though, is this Mego commercial that says these figures are a foot tall. Now I’ve never been a Mego expert — hell, I never even owned one of the 8-inch superheroes (but I did have Action Jackson) — and I haven’t done any online research, so it’s possible Mego had a separate line of 12-inch heroes. Anyone out there know what’s up? Are there actually 12-inch Mego figures or did their commercial lie to the children of the 70s?

  1. I always thought it was “Meg-O” as opposed to “Me-Go”… Who knew?

That Hulk looks pretty cool by 1970’s standards.

Maybe they had a few 12 inch guys in addition to their 8 inch line.

  2. There were 12 inchers. My friend had a 12 inch Batman. It was pretty rad… it had magnets in its hands. All I ever had were the 8 inchers and the little 4 inch guys.
