Metal Gear Solid Play Arts Kai Jungle Snake Quick Pics and Thoughts

I decided to drag my Play Arts Kai Snake (Jungle Version)* action figure outside today for some snaps. We’ve had a bit of rain lately and while I was walking this morning I noticed a spot that looked like it would work great for photos . . . and it did!

Kinda Tall
I don’t own many of the Play Arts Kai action figures, but Snake here is pretty tall when compared to the Halo Reach Jun* action figure from the Play Arts Kai series. How much taller? Well, the top of Jun’s head barely reaches Snake’s neck. That’s a pretty dramatic height difference.

The height difference is frustrating, but it doesn’t destroy the figure. Anyone out there collecting the Play Arts Kai series know if scale is a problem across the line or if I’ve just hit a weird case? The answer to the question won’t spoil the line for me, but it is something I’d like to figure out before ordering too many more toys from the line. I suppose I can also just ask Square Enix about this at Toy Fair next week.

Great Sculpt
Snake may be tall — or the Play Arts Kai Halo figures are short — but the sculpt looks fantastic. I love the combat gear and how it hangs from the body, and every detail of the uniform is great. As you can see in the pics the team at Square Enix put a lot of work into Snake’s sculpt. I should really take some shots in the light tent to give everyone a better idea of how the sculpt looks (these outdoor shots aren’t lit well and the details don’t pop like they should).

Definitely Recommended
The Play Arts Kai Snake (Jungle Version)* is pretty damned fun. If I had to point at one flaw it would be the holster — the pistol fits neatly, but that holster just won’t stay closed — and even with that problem I’m still saying that this is a remarkable action figure that any Metal Gear Solid fan should grab.

The height issue is annoying — I wish Snake was more in scale with the Halo Reach Play Arts Kai action figures so that they could be displayed together — but once I started posing Snake I decided that I could forgive his height. I do owe you guys a real review of this toy, but for now I hope you enjoy these photos that I took outside. I know I had fun taking them (even if it did involve some climbing over shattered bits of rock).
