“Monopoly is illegal in Cuba; Silly Putty was an accident”
I may have read too many books about toys and the toy industry. As I was reading the Ludington, Michigan Ludington Daily News December 2, 1989 article I just kept thinking “yeah, I knew that.” I guess reading books like Timeless Toys*, Toys!: Amazing Stories Behind Some Great Inventions*, and Toy Time!* I’ve got a better knowledge of toy history than the average newspaper reader.
I can say, though, that this 1989 Associated Press article did have some info in it that I hadn’t remembered or known. The Silly Putty in space and history of the yo-yo were both new information for my abused mind, so I guess maybe I haven’t read enough on toys and toy history. I’ll have to work on that problem.
I’m also now wondering if I should put some effort into writing my own “toy history” article and try to get it into the local paper for Christmas. Could be fun.
