Monsterwax’s Journey to the Center of the Earth Trading Cards

Trading card publisher Monsterwax (first mentioned here) has unleashed their Journey to the Center of the Earth & 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea trading cards. Looking pretty damned cool, and I may just have to order a box and play with the cards for myself. Art fans may want to checkout the other Monsterwax trading card sets while they’re at the site.

Yes, they are finally here and shipping has begun!

We used the delay to add all sorts of fun extras to a series that is not only a tribute to one of our favorite authors (Jules Verne), but also to one of our favorite artists (Ricardo Garijo, Sr). This was Ricardo’s last project before his untimely death in October of 2009, so we wanted it to be extra special. In fact, we’re dedicating 75% of the profits to his widow, so if you buy only ONE box of cards this year, make sure it is THIS ONE.

Each $45 box includes at least two complete sets of the story cards (which depict the actual novels), plus a numbered checklist (1 of 1,000), a Bio card on Jules Verne, plus one about Ricardo Garijo, Sr. There is also a compete six card subset of Verne Gallary cards, with Ricardo’s artist son picking up where his father left off: Profiling the other great Verne novels like Mysterious Island, Master of the World, and From Earth to the Moon.
