MotorBoating Yahtzee in 1981
If you’ve read just about any book that covers the history of twentieth-century toys and games (Timeless Toys* is one of my personal favorites) then you’ve encountered the story of Yahtzee: Canadian couple with loads of cash works with Edwin Lowe of Bingo fame (really, see Wikipedia) to have their “yacht” game produced. Couple vanishes, Lowe makes money until eventually the company is sold to Milton Bradley . . . which is now part of Hasbro.
Anyway, what I never expected to encounter was the story of Yahtzee in an issue of MotorBoating magazine, BUT that’s exactly what we find in the April 1981 issue of the magazine. Weird. I guess the editors saw this as an inspirational tale.
