NASA’s “Hedgehog” Robot Makes Me Think of Interstellar
It may not be toys or games or pop culture, but this “Hedgehog” robot design from NASA is something you definitely need to see in action. Designed to explore comets and asteroids — very low-gravity locations — and this video shows us how the “Hedgehog” robot avoids wheels and legs and instead uses flywheels and a brake to generate a form of movement unique to this robot design.
This unusual robot immediately made me think of the robots in Interstellar*. Not because “Hedgehog” looks anything like TARS or CASE, but because the movie design and real design throw away all of our preconceived thoughts about robots and give us something completely new.
Watch the video and you’ll see what I’m talking about. “Hedgehog” is pretty cool.
