October, 1998 Wizard Magazine and the Star Wars Expanded Universe
Are you ready for more of Kenner’s 1998 Star Wars Expanded Universe series? Well, today’s look at the October, 1998 issue of Wizard Magazine (Amazon.com search*) makes a great companion to yesterday’s Expanded Universe Profiles post. As I look back at the Expanded Universe the one thing that takes me by surprise is just how small a subline it actually was: nine carded action figures and three vehicles were branded “Expanded Universe,” which feels quite small considering how many toys Kenner and Hasbro could have made.

It’s cool looking at the list of figures Toy Fare had on their most wanted:
1. South Park- Those have been released
3. Sideshow made two versions of CGB Spender in their 12 inch X-Files.
4. Danger Girl- I’ve got the set of four on my shelf.
5. Thunderbolts- Marvel Legends have been releasing these guys over the past few years. I think they’ve got a fairly complete roster now.
8. Fathom- She’s been made.
9. Orion- He’s had a few figures from JLU, DCUC, and DC Collectibles/ DC Direct.
10. We got the Lois Lane in her superhero costume, does that count?
Still no Guri in Star Wars, though. I always wanted her too as she was a huge part of Shadows of the Empire. I have some friends who are Star Wars fans that are a few years younger than me (I was in 6th grade when SOTE hit) and it’s tough to explain to them how big of a deal that event was!
I’m loving these old Toy Fare adds, Phil. I’ve got all of my old Toy Fare issues still but ti’s fun to comment on them!
@Barbecue17 – Still no Guri? How does something like that even happen? Shadows of the Empire turns twenty next year, and it kinda feels like an oversight that Guri has never been an action figure.
