Reading – Car Warriors #3 (1991)
Over the last week I’ve reviewed issues #1 and #2 of the 1991 Car Warriors comic book (Amazon.com search*), and now it’s time we continue our look at the series as things kick into gear and the race starts. Time for some destruction, kids!
They’re Off!
This is what the last two issues of the mini-series have been building toward, The Delorean Run, a race to transport miracle seed into Lansing, Michigan. We’re introduced to a few new characters, but the primary focus of this issue is getting everyone into Fort Delorean and loading their cars with the seed for the race back . . . and the destruction during the race to the finish line.
Mostly Mindless Mayhem
The race turns into lots of explosions, gunfire, and 100% Car Wars (Amazon.com search*) action fairly quickly as we see the different racers run up against locals and cycle gangs who are trying to keep the drivers from completing the run. It’s pure violence, and while it’s not at all high literature it’s very fun. And with car combat stories I can skip character development, intricate plots, and detailed backgrounds in exchange for a few good moments.
Closing Thoughts
After the set up in the first two issues #1 and #2 of the 1991 Car Warriors comic book (Amazon.com search*) this third one starts the big payoff of the various character arcs and subplots we saw introduced earlier. We also get to witness a lot of explosive action, and when it’s a Car Wars (Amazon.com search*) story I can live just fine as long as the end result is fun.
And this is fun.
