Reading – Funko World of Pop! Volume One

World of Pop! Volume One* is a photographic celebration of the designer toy series that I named the Best Designer Vinyl Series of 2012 in my recent 2012 Battlegrip.com Awards. A 100-page hardcover, the book showcases Funko’s Pop! Vinyl toy line (Amazon.com search*) with a collection of informative and artistic photographs. And it’s a fun book to flip through!

World of Pop! Volume One* is a hefty hardcover book with nice, glossy stock and a great design that makes the toys the star of the book. Much of the book is filled with clean product shots — I’m a fan of toy photography where the toys are shown on pure white backgrounds — that show the Pop! Vinyl toys from Disney to Star Wars to Marvel and every other fun and unusual series Funko has licensed in the first few years of the line’s existence.

Perfect for Funko Fans

At about $10/toy collecting the entire Pop! Vinyl series could be quite pricey for a collector, but the World of Pop! Volume One* hardcover, at $30, gives all of us a way to enjoy the line without the cost — in both dollars and shelf space! — that the actual toys demand. It’s no replacement for the toys, but it’s a great book for a toy collector’s shelf and has been assembled with the quality I expect from art books. It’s a classy design and feels like a well-crafted book.

Closing Thoughts

World of Pop! Volume One* will go right on the shelf on my desk where I can reach it quickly whenever I want to look into the line. It’s recommended for Funko fans and casual viewers interested in a closer look at the book will want to see the dozen photos I’ve posted in this Flickr set.

And for even more on the series there’s always the toy reviews I have posted here at battlegrip.com:

  1. What is going on with the vynil invaders? There needs to be more. Being small jumbos means some additional figures would help justify the size and shogun warrior fans need to see four(at least) in a row. I know jumbo purists are only looking at super7 but I feel there is plenty of time to snag affordable jumbo themed toys locally during the long years between super7 jumbos. Just sayin

  2. @Openchallenge – Maybe we’ll see some new Vinyl Invaders at NYTF next month. So far all I know of is the KISS robot and the three Batman robots.
