Reading – Glyos System: Rechlen and Aves
Published in 2006 by Onell Design, Rechlen and Aves is a 32-page book by Matt Doughty that shows off early, hand-produced Glyos System toys. Created before Onell Design moved to factory production with their toys, Rechlen and Aves is Matt Doughty’s photo and story showcase that is a lot of fun and really shows off all of the hard work that went into building the line.
Rechlen
This isn’t the first time that Rechlen has made his way to battlegrip.com. Last year, during one of my visits with Matt, I posted a review of Rechlen and took the opportunity to snap photos of the toy. While not as artistic or cool as the photos in the Rechlen and Aves book I think I did okay, and looking back at that review I see I really missed a chance to try and continue Matt’s story. Maybe the next time I’m out there and spend a few days I can get ambitious and try to rope Matt into working on a new Rechlen story with me.
Aves
A “Sincroid,” a synthetic/robot-like creation that exists in the Glyos System, Aves is the cool red guy and looking at him makes me hope that both Rechlen and Aves-inspired heads can be created as new additions to the Glyan (first review here, second review here).
And add new torsos and a couple of other minor parts and the two could be dramatically new additions to the line. But if I know Matt he’ll never go for something that simple; he’s far more creative and artistic than I tend to be and if he does bring these characters to mass production I bet something really cool will happen.
Pheyden
The book also shows the old hand-crafted Pheyden action figure. There are several minor differences between the hand-constructed Pheyden and the factory Pheyden (Hades Pheyden review here, Arquem Pheyden review here, Red Guardian Pheyden review here, Rothan Pheyden review here) and seeing the original makes me wish I had one of those old resin action figures. I’m scared to look at eBay for one; I bet when they appear they sell for lots of bucks.
Enjoy the Pics
In addition to the shots here I suggest checking the “rechlen and aves” tag at the Glyos Transmission Web Log. Scroll down and you’ll find where photos from the book have been posted. Hopefully the book will be reprinted one of these days so others can get a chance to read it, but for now you can enjoy those photos.
And don’t forget to vote on our next theme week (see the poll at right) . . . unless you’re reading this after the voting closed. Anyway, thanks for looking at my pics and keep an eye on the Onell Design website for the latest toys.

Thank you so much for sharing these!
It’s stuff like this that makes me lament not knowing about glyos earlier.
@Seth L – Good to hear you enjoyed it. I’ve got some other older Glyos stuff I should post to the site.
the R&A style guide is also great booky – shame it never turned into a full story comic.
