Remember, Only G.I. Joe is G.I. Joe

As far as I can tell it’s still 2014 — I don’t think the year is over yet — and that means it is still the fiftieth anniversary of G.I. Joe. I keep hoping Hasbro will announce some cool celebration stuff for the anniversary, but while we wait for Hasbro I thought this classic 1960s G.I. Joe commercial would be fun to watch. This — and more — is also featured in GI Joe: The Story Of America’s Movable Fighting Man*, a documentary that covers the G.I. Joe action figure of the sixties and seventies.

Come on, Hasbro, and show us you noticed G.I. Joe is fifty this year and wow us all. I know the Transformers thirtieth anniversary is getting your real attention, but maybe just something as simple as a collection of sixties and seventies G.I. Joe packaging art — like you’re doing for Transformers eighties art in Transformers Legacy* — could be assembled and published in time for Christmas. Please. I promise I would buy such a book.
