Return of the Jedi on VHS in 1986
This March, 1986 Starlog magazine issue was looking pretty sweet and then turned amazing once I reached the back cover. An ad for Return of the Jedi on VHS? That’s incredible and was completely unexpected!
These days we expect to see movies released to the world of our homes six months or so after theaters, but back in the eighties and early nineties the release of a movie on video was a remarkable thing. Sure movies could be bought, but we had to wait some time before we got the opportunity to buy a tape and then destroy it with too many stop, pause, play, pause, stop, pause moments as we stared at specific frames. (At least I hope I wasn’t the only one doing that with video tapes.)
