Review – Callgrim Grimshack
Jesse Moore’s Callgrim (website) is just one small part of the overall Glyos System series of toys (Onell Design), but it’s an important part since Jesse is an incredible artist and has released wave after wave of Callgrim action figures.
Not to mention his first Custom Corps launch where I managed to score the jaw-droppingly and mind-blowingly amazing Grimwave action figure (Grimwave review here, more Grimwave pics here). That custom action figure is one that Transformers fans everywhere have been trying to get me to part with, and now Grimwave has a suitable companion. And no, you can’t have either one of these toys.
Grimshack?
After playing with the Transformers Shockwave-inspired Grimwave for a few weeks my mind made the mental connection between this custom and the fact that there had to be a gray version to take advantage of the “Shackwave” toy that Radio Shack released back in the eighties (see Wikipedia). My plan was to track down gray Callgrim parts to build my own Grimshack custom . . . but Jesse had other plans.
A Welcome Gift
At NYCC last weekend Jesse presented me with this Grimshack custom that he constructed and painted after we discussed the Grimshack idea. Back at the end of August/beginning of September Jesse and I were talking about his upcoming new toy — oops, I think that’s a secret still — when I explained the Grimshack idea to him. Life then continued, with me taking a few trips for work and Jesse visiting China and Japan (see his blog), and I never did get a chance to track down enough gray parts to build my Grimshack. But not to worry, because as you can see in these photos Jesse created something far superior to anything I would have made.

Everything I wrote about the Grimwave custom in the review I posted holds true here. The two toys are the same build using Glyos System parts and both were painted by a master who isn’t afraid to get in there and beat the hell out of his tools. The end result is a fabulous companion for Grimwave and while the toy is staying locked away in my collection what I see here — and the e-mails I’ve been sent about Grimwave — make me hope that Jesse can find a way to get this design created in China. Even if only a short run of toys I suspect there are a lot of Glyos and Transformers fans who would spend the $30 or so it would cost if this build was created and painted at the factory and mass-produced.

Thank you, Jesse, for taking one of my bad ideas and creating something wonderful. And then to give it to me is far more generous than I ever deserved. I just hope that you find a way to get the Grimshack and Grimwave builds made in China so that I know these are safe. There are too many fans out there trying to get their hands on my toys and I don’t have the funds for a robot guard to protect these two incredible custom action figures.
Philip Reed also needs to post reviews of the other two Callgrim Custom Corps toys he has in his collection.

I would totally, totally buy these guys if they somehow were given a standalone release. They look fantastic. 😀
@Vangelus – My one fear that could keep these from being mass-produced is just the number of parts involved. It would probably have to be a $40 figure even mass-produced.
