Review – Dungeons & Dragons KRE-O Tiefling

dungeonsanddragons

Hasbro’s Dungeons & Dragons KRE-O series (Amazon.com search*) launched earlier this year, and while at the New York TRU I bought a couple of the Army Builder Packs. Well, I should have either searched for the code on the pack or bought more than two. Why? I got two identical figures. Damn.

Tiefling Kreon

This tiny Tiefling Kreon comes with his two swords and the game card, meaning that you can either pose the little guy on your shelf or play a game with him. Well, you can play the game if you get more sets and find a copy of the rules; there were no rules packed with this figure. There was a $3 off coupon for more sets, though, which means that if you use every coupon when buying these Kreons you’re effectively getting some free figures. Nice!

Isn’t that just a LEGO Minifig?

Not exactly. See my Transformers Kreons review for a look at the Kreon design. The quick summary boils down to the toys are articulated — swivel waist, neck and wrists, ball-jointed him and shoulders — and adorable. In my opinion the Kreons are the best part of Hasbro’s entire KRE-O system.

In fact, I like the Kreons so much that I even wrote asking Hasbro to make more (see “Wanted: “Hasbro History” Kreons”) and Hasbro granted one of my wishes with this Dungeons & Dragons series. Thanks, Hasbro. Now make more!

Closing Thoughts

It seems unlikely to me that the Dungeons & Dragons KRE-O series (Amazon.com search*) is going to actually go anywhere beyond where it’s at now. And that’s too bad, but without an animated series or a killer app there’s not much chance kids are going to be buying these, and far too many of the Dungeons & Dragons RPG players I’ve talked to are skipping this line for it to really succeed.

Buy these now if you want them! I don’t see much of a future for the Dungeons & Dragons KRE-O series (Amazon.com search*). I could be wrong, but I suspect that by Christmas these will be on clearance and soon forgotten.
