Review – Finger Five Pheyden
Produced last year by Fig-Lab (first posted at Fig-Lab) this Warped Pheyden is from the Five Finger line of mini-vinyl toys. A fun, cute sculpt that takes Pheyden into near-SD territory, the toy hasn’t been especially easy to get and once I had my hands on one I knew I had to share him with everyone.
Zero Articulation
The Five Finger Pheyden is a hollow, single-piece vinyl toy that’s open at the bottom. Classified as a “finger puppet” toy, the Five Finger Pheyden makes a fun display object and fits right in with various other Glyos System-inspired toys like the minis produced by RXH and Onell Design. He may be small and static, but that doesn’t make it a cool collectible and a nice addition to any Pheyden collection.
Glows!
The Five Finger Pheyden I’ve got, as you can see in the below pic, is made of GITD vinyl and it has just as much power as other Japanese GITD vinyl toys in my collection. Standing in one of the displays in my living room, this guy pops when I turn the lights out at night; it’s too bad that brightly-glowing plastic toys aren’t as common as I would like or else I’d build a shelf packed only with GITD toys.
A Soft Sculpt
In fitting with the adorable, single-piece design of the toy the sculpt is rounded and smooth, with few deep cuts into the design and everything slightly simplified when compared to the Pheyden action figure. The visual cues are there — this is clearly Pheyden — but they’re all wider and squater than they are on the action figure. This really is a display piece/art object and feels like it (if it were much smaller) would make a great pencil topper design.
Closing Thoughts
While not for everyone, the Five Finger Pheyden is nicely-produced and makes a good companion to the RXH/Onell Design mini-vinyl figures that have been released over the last few years. I have no idea when this toy will see a wider distribution, but I suggest watching the Glyos Transmission Web Log for any possible information on the toy.
Mine looks great in the collection and I’m quite happy to have gotten one into my hands. And I hope you enjoy the photos of the toy with other Glyos System vinyl toys.
