Review – Funko Hikari Skeletor

Funko’s Hikari series — “Hikari, meaning ‘light’, is a highly collectible line of clear Sofubi Vinyl Figures.” — caught my eye when it was first released, and over a trip to NYC in December I bought my first few Hikari releases. Today I’d like to share this vinyl Skeletor toy with you. Limited to 1,000 pieces, this colorful Skeletor is just one of several Hikari Skeletor toys (Amazon.com search*) Funko released. The differences? It’s all in the colorways.

Limited to 1,000

The run size for each of the Hikari Skeletor toys (Amazon.com search*) is different, and this particular edition was limited to 1,000 pieces. Mine says that it is number 659, and this particular design was an Entertainment Earth exclusive release.

7-Inches Tall

This beefy chunk of soft plastic stands 7-inches tall, and the sculpt’s as fun and perfect as I’ve come to expect from Funko. The design is clearly Skeletor, with the head, feet, chest harness, and loin cloth all heavily-stylized versions of the classic character design. The toy’s got a fantastic heft to it, and any fans of Japanese vinyl will instantly recognize this as a quality release once holding the toy. Funko didn’t cheap out on the plastic or the design.

Colorful!

The most important difference amongst the Hikari Skeletor toys (Amazon.com search*) is that each is a different colorway. Identical sculpts, many different color designs. This makes for a rainbow of Skeletors, and as you can see by this example each toy isn’t afraid to sport many different colors right in the single design.

The toy’s made of a red plastic, and popping the head off I am left thinking it may even be a glittery plastic. That glitter effect doesn’t carry through to the external design of the toy — look at all of those spray effects! — so maybe I’m insane and imagining that I see glitter inside the toy. I have imagined things before, right? It’s not you, Skeletor, it’s me.

Closing Thoughts

What an adorable design! I know that Funko’s Hikari Skeletor toys (Amazon.com search*) aren’t for everyone, but if you’re a fan of Masters of the Universe and Japanese soft vinyl toys then you should give at least one of these a try.

Me? I’ve got a half-dozen of the different Skeletors in this line. What I need to do is get all of them unboxed and displayed; something tells me that it is as a group of toys that this Hikari Skeletor will look most impressive. I’ll get those other guys open soon. Really.
