Review – Galaxy Empire Boba Fett Knockoff

Back in April I posted the Galaxy Empire Stormtrooper Knockoff (review here) and it was terrible. Nasty paint, cheap plastic, that thing had it all. Well, it’s Boba Fett companion is even worse. Watch as some cheap imitation turns the coolest bounty hunter in the galaxy into a laughable hunk of plastic that even his mother refuses to love.

Packaging

The exact same card and blister package as found with the Galaxy Empire Stormtrooper Knockoff, this Boba Fett package goes that extra step further in the “steal it all!” approach to toy bootlegs. Using an image from Empire, the card art guarantees that any Star Wars fan out there won’t miss this thing when they encounter it. And I didn’t need to show the card back since this thing is so cheap that they didn’t print anything at all on the back.

The packaging is ugly, with terrible type treatment, but it’s a clear warning of what is coming next. Flee, young Jedi, before it’s too late.

That’s No Boba . . .

As bad as the Galaxy Empire Stormtrooper Knockoff was, this thing makes that toy look like one of the best action figures ever created. Sure, the plastic is just as cheap, but the joints on this thing as so stiff and caked with paint that it took me several minutes of forcing each joint to move before I could even start posing this guy.

And posing him isn’t even all that much fun. Our Galaxy Empire Boba Fett Knockoff action figure has a twisty waist, moves at the shoulders and hips, and his head rotates. And that is it, folks. And what’s worse is that he’s so big and top heavy that he only stands after you play around with his posture so that his center of balance has him leaning back a little. Which is really weird since I thought for sure that his backpack would already have his center of balance too far back.

As with the Knockoff Stormtrooper, both the paint and casting on this guy are terrible. The paint is worse than on the Stormtrooper but, to be fair, that’s primarily because the bootleggers tried to get fancy with this figure. Cast in pale blue plastic, the Galaxy Empire Boba Fett Knockoff figure has a ton of different paint applications, every single one of which is sloppy and all over the place. Take a look at that photo at left and you can see paint on Fett’s ass that certainly doesn’t belong there.

And just like the Stormtrooper, this toy’s seam lines are ragged with bits of plastic sticking out everywhere. It’s almost as is Fett needed some time with a grinder and sander before he hit the paint room.

He Can’t Even Hold His Own Gun

You see that rifle (looks a lot like a Stormtrooper rifle)? Well, the Fett action figure may come with that rifle but he can’t hold it. You see, neither hand is opened wide enough to hold the rifle’s handle. So what we have here is an over-sized weapon that can’t be used by any of the Star Wars action figures in my collection.

(Actually, I’m betting my I’m betting my Sideshow 12-inch 212th Trooper (review here) could hold this thing but he’s still waiting on a foot repair and he isn’t ready for battle.)

Closing Thoughts

Cheap, ugly, a weapon he can’t even use . . . it appears that this Galaxy Empire Boba Fett Knockoff action figure really embraces the poor quality that bootleg toys are known for. He’s an oddity that doesn’t really belong in any collection, but I’m willing to bet that there are hardcore Boba Fett fans out there who have one of these guys just because it’s got the Fett coloring (well, kinda) and suit design.

Do not search for this guy, but also think twice about passing him up if you find him for about a buck. After all, you could always use an ugly toy to give your cooler toys a target.

Philip Reed would probably pick up some of the other figures in this series if he could find them cheap. And he would definitely grab more knockoff stormtroopers if he could ever find them.
