Review – Glyos Rig “Training Simulator”

The latest Glyos System Rig (Onell Design) arrived last week, and this black machine is simply a variant on the original Glyos Rig (review here) so please don’t expect too much in the way of intelligent writing in this review. After all, I’m tired after a long week at work and anything interesting that I may have written is likely trapped somewhere in my broken mind.
Not Easy to Buy
As an independent company, Onell Design, the Rig’s manufacturer, doesn’t keep these in stock so they tend to sellout very fast. So that means that unless you’re there during the drop of a new wave the chances of you grabbing a new Rig are very slim. Your best bet to find one now is the October Toys forum . . . or you can skip to the end of this review for another possible way to grab a Rig.
White and Gray Paint
This black vinyl toy has the exact same sculpt as the original release (review here), but it’s an entirely new color. The white is cleanly painted, nice and smooth and in all of the rights spots, while the gray is slightly rougher than the white but still good. It wasn’t even until I was preparing the photos for this review that I noticed the gray slopping over onto a spot of white, so it’s a minimal issue that will only bother the most insane of the collectors out there. (Matt Doughty of Onell Design, for example, is probably cursing that tiny bit of gray right now.)
I Want Wings
Ever since I first played with the original master (post here) I have wanted to be able to swap out the arms on the Rig for wings. You see, the body design strikes me as a cool spaceship and I really want a pair of wings that can be positioned in either a swept-back or swept-forward configuration. And I can’t be the only person who would love a wing pack for the Rig, especially if it came with a center shell part that connected the two wings together and also acted as a small cockpit; think of a TIE Fighter-like cockpit connected to Conquest X-30 wings and you’ll picture what I’m looking for.
Closing Thoughts
Fun! It’s great that the Glyos System (Onell Design) is starting to get vehicles, and this Rig — which really makes me think of the old Star Wars Mini-Rigs — is a really fun addition to the series and perfect for any kids who are playing with the toys (I loved that these designer toys are actually playable and that some parents are buying them for their kids). It’s a bit pricey for a toy — $25 — but if you keep in mind that there are very few of these out there and this is a special toy and not just an ordinary toy you can buy at Wal-Mart the price is quite reasonable.
You wanna be a cool mom or dad? Buy your kids some of these toys and they’ll have something totally unlike what the other kids at school own. And you’ll be helping to support an indie toy company.

It’s kind of crazy what you sometimes notice in pictures. I’ve had that happen a number of times where I’ll see something on the screen that I hadn’t noticed when I was looking at the figure in hand.

Really regretting skipping this one, but them’s the breaks!
Also there is a slight remold to the arm connectors, they pop in and out easier then the original, I think it was introduced on the clear variation.
I just got my first armodocs, and the vinyl is much thinner and softer than I expected. That is great to keep the pieces from tearing during transformations, and I think I remember people saying the first armodocs had hard vinyl (I could be wrong though). Is this rig pretty soft too?
This is my favorite color they’ve released so far, I just didn’t have any money to buy it or that very cool looking gray armodoc. I hope we get some realliy bright color rigs later. I’m attracted to bright colors.

While I’m partial to 6″ scale figures with crazy articulation… this ‘rig’ figure from the Glyos system just might convert me. 🙂
