Review – Glyos System Caliber Dome, Norisar Command

Line: Glyos * Manufacturer: Rawshark * Year: 2011

One of the cool things that Jesse Moore (Callgrim) has been doing with his Callgrim action figures is releasing built-up and modified variants that take the basic action figure, pop it apart, and then reassemble it into a new design. And here we get one of the Caliber Domes (still available at the Callgrim shop), a heavy-weaponed beast of a toy that’s gonna blow something apart. Why else would it be armed with those cannon arms?

27 Parts

At about 3.5-inches tall, the Caliber Dome is one of the larger mass-produced Glyos System action figures. And he’s constructed out of over two dozen parts, each one of which is ready for you to snap the pieces off and recreate the design as you wish. And since a lot of the fun of the Glyos System can be had constructing your own action figures my favorite part of the Domes is that it provides us with some ideas on how to rearrange the basic design into something new . . . and still uses every piece!

Paint and Inspiration?

Usually I can identify the inspiration for various colorways, but with this Norisar Command Caliber Dome I’m left scratching my head. I’m betting I should immediately get the idea behind the color combination, but I’m drawing a complete blank. Anyone able to help me out here?

But regardless of the source of the colors, what we get is colored plastic parts with minimal paint apps. The painted detail lines are great and everything about the paint is what we’ve come to expect from Glyos System toys. And since the parts are QCed in the US before the toys are shipped it’s unusual to get a dud; I’ve seen the dud pile, and it’s a builders dream.

Closing Thoughts

After a long week of Glyos System fun here at battlegrip.com it’s personally great for me that I’ve finally managed to get one of the Callgrim action figures finally up on the site (Grimwavereviewed here — doesn’t count since he was a custom). I can still remember when this design was first released a few years ago — see the release post at the Callgrim blog — and it’s completely my fault that I didn’t get the design up here at battlegrip.com until today.

If you’re a Glyos System fan then you already have at least one of these figures, and if you’re not then you’ll want one shortly after you get a chance to play and build with any of the toys in the line. And the parts in this give some great basic components, so be sure to take a closer look at the Callgrim blog; I think you’ll be inspired by some of the builds that have been posted over the last few years.

Philip Reed will now relax for the night. There may be another post before Glyos System Week ends, but we’re winding down.

  1. Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to review this line in such great detail. I was only tertiarily aware of these little guys and earlier in the week placed my first order. I opened the box today and was blown away by how fun and cool they were. I immediately dipped back into the store and loaded up on a bunch of figures to gift this Christmas.

  2. @Shawn – Good to hear! I kinda went through the same experience a few years ago when I first encountered these; they’re a lot more playable than you realize and the more you build with them the more fun they are.
