Review – Glyos System Rig Runner
Line: Glyos * Manufacturer: Onell Design * Year: 2012
NOTE: This toy was provided by the manufacturer, Onell Design, and I am friends with the people behind the company and the toys. You have been warned.
Last month I reviewed the Callgrim (website) vinyl toy, the DRT Riac and WARP Bike (review here). Now we take a second look at two of the three parts that make the WARP Bike with this look at the recently released (and near-instant sellout) Glyos System Rig Runner. And while the Rig Runner is no longer available I am confident that it will return in new colors.
Three Parts
Above you can see the three parts of the Rig Runner. And as with earlier Glyos System vinyl toys the parts are compatible with other releases like the Armodoc (first review here, second review here) and the Rig (first review here, second review here, third review here). What does this mean, exactly? It means that you can swap parts around and create new toys of your own design. Just the thing if you enjoy being creative and want to design new vehicles and robots for use with the Glyos System line.
Standard Model
The photo above (and the one below) show the basic Rig Runner as it is shipped by Onell Design. This is the standard Rig Runner and stands up quite nicely even with an action figure slotted into the “seat” portion of the center component. Using the Rig Runner as hover bike does require imagination since there are no handlebars or other controls, but just like the old Landspeeder of the late seventies the vehicle works just fine for anyone who is ready to shout “zooooommmmmmm!” and race the Rig Runner across imaginary landscapes.
Customs
The next two photos show the Rig Runner with the central component connected to other Glyos System Rig parts. Both of these custom designs do stand on their own, but that second design is a bit of a pain to keep standing since there are some balance issues. But I think both shots give a taste of what can be done with the toys and should get your imagination running as you look at the available parts.
Closing Thoughts
The Glyos System Rig Runner isn’t as immediately accessible as the Armodoc or the Rig, but as you twist and turn the parts things start to click into place. And as soon as you snap parts off and start replacing them with other compatible pieces it all comes together. The toy is unavailable at this time, but keep an eye on the Glyos Transmission Web Log for news of new releases.
I’ve got to say thanks to the gang at Onell Design for sending the Rig Runner to me before the official release. I just wish that there had been time to post this review before the toy went up for sale.
Philip Reed was working late and completely missed the latest Glyos drop, but if he had been at the computer he totally would have bought a second Rig Runner (and too many other things).
Can’t wait to get mine! I’m probably going to repaint it, and definitely going to add some extra touches myself.
Great stuff, cant wait for mine to show! Loking forward to black ones.
Can’t wait to get my Rig Runner, too bad I didn’t have the money for more vinyl to customize it with. Your build for the Shock Force gendrone is pretty sweet too.
The reason I didn’t grab any of these was because I knew it would be a slippery slope; buy one and I need two to even it out, might as well get some blocks to attach them to while I’m there. Oh and the Rig arm sets, need two of those as well for possible symmetry. And that there is like, what? $120 roughly without shipping? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, i need more money…
It’s little wonder so much of the vinyl in compatible colors taxed the store’s servers… wow.
Great pics, Phil!
It’s past time for some more Destroyators!
@stack32 – Thanks. I was playing around with the parts and knew I wanted to assemble a rider for the bike, after a few minutes I settled on this guy. He can’t stand on his own, but he does work well on the bike.
@Black Zarak – During the next launch I recommend grabbing one vinyl. They do make fantastic companions to the PVC figures. Just be very selective and grab one design you really love; but you are right that it’s a trap.
