Review – Glyos System Standard Gobon MK III
Line: Glyos * Manufacturer: Onell Design * Year: 2011
The Glyos System Gobon isn’t a stranger to battlegrip.com; over the past couple of years the Gobon has already been reviewed four times here at the site. And with so many reviews already online this latest Gobon review is going to be more about pics and less about words. For too many words about this plastic plaything see these older reviews:
Fun in a Shell
This Gobon is physically identical to the earlier models, which means that there’s that extra head trapped inside the dome body and that the more of these you grab the cooler constructions you can create. One of the favorite configurations uses two of the large dome bodies turned sideways; see this photo from March, 2010 for a look at what I’m talking about. Seriously, this guy’s a lot of fun and quite cute.
Still Available?
Now this is an unexpected minor miracle. Usually a Glyos System release is long gone by the time I get around to posting a review, but as of this writing the Standard Gobon MK III is still available at the Onell Design webstore. The Gobon is one of the pricier releases in the series, but there’s a lot of plastic and it’s a heavy piece.
Closing Thoughts
There’s really not a lot that I can say that hasn’t already been said in my earlier Gobon reviews. This guy isn’t one of the best choices for those looking to construct toys — the standard Buildman or the new Glyans are much better building toys — but he’s a fun toy and every Glyos System collection should include at least one Gobon.
Of course, true toy customizers no doubt laugh at me when I say this isn’t a great choice for constructing new toys. Hell, Matt Doughty’s entire Renegades Custom Corps was all about customizing Gobons and creating monstrous robots. See the Renegades archive at the Onell site for a look at what an artist can do with this basic body and some extra parts.
I take back everything I said about building with the Gobon.
Philip Reed loves that group of Gobons all together. One of the better things about collecting Glyos toys is the variety of colorways and how the toy’s look in a group. As the above photo demonstrates.
Ya, the Renegades Custom Corp will no doubt be highly desirable in months/years to come as more and more collectors gravitate to the Glyos toys. These are probably the most overlooked Custom Corp in my opinion and I predict that will soon change when new collectors read the comic and see the totally unique Custom Corp Renegades.

I’ve only got a handful, but I can confirm they are a brilliant canvas for customs:

I’ve given up finding Rusty, Nemica, Cerberus, or Granthan Gobons at a price I can afford, much less the other Renegades.
