Review – Halo Blind-Bagged MEGA Blok Green UNSC Pilot
It’s time for more. More of the Halo Mega Bloks* blind-bagged mini-figures and this time we’re looking at one of the common figures, the Green UNSC Pilot. This guy’s a lot like the Purple UNSC Spartan we looked at a few days ago (review here) so please don’t expect anything more than photos and my usual yammering and stammering nonsense.
I Got Two!
Out of the four bags that I bought, two of them were this Green UNSC Pilot. Not the greatest luck in the world, I know, but at least they look decent together. Still, I would have been happier with a Red UNSC Spartan (another common figure) so maybe the next time I’m at the store I’ll grab a bag or two and try my luck. Yeah, blind-bagged toys really are fun . . . either that, or I’m a major sucker.
A Different Sculpt
At a glance this looks like a green/gray version of the Purple UNSC Spartan (review here), but once you start comparing the details it become obvious that we’re actually looking at a slightly different sculpt. The upper arms, head, torso, and waist are all new pieces, which shows that the guys behind this line aren’t cutting a lot of corners. Good move, because I suspect that hardcore Halo fans would have immediately noticed any differences between these figures and the games. Me? Nah, I never would have noticed. I just like the basic suit design.
Not as Green as it Looks in the Catalog
The included insert with the toy makes this figure looks much lighter and brighter than it actually is. I’m not sure if that was lighting or if the original plan was for a lighter green, but I’m happy with the dark green and gray that was used on the released toy. And the paint is okay — the visors aren’t perfect but they’re adequate — but as with the Purple UNSC Spartan you don’t buy these toys for high-end collectibles. These are just simple little mini-figures meant to be played with.
A Set May be Tough to Grab
I bought four bags and ended up with three different figures out of the eight in this wave. And after my experience trying to score the blind-bagged Marvel Mega Bloks* Green Goblin (review here) I’m gonna say that anyone after all eight of the figures in this wave will probably have to buy between 20 and 25 bags.
That’s a lot of little figures to have to deal with. But I suppose you could just build a massive diorama. Good luck if you decide to be a completist when it comes to these toys. I get the feeling it’s not gonna be an easy road to take.

You know… if you check the bags, I think you’ll find there’s these numbers (product codes? can’t remember what they’re called). They’re not printed, they’re the indented kind. Feel around with your fingers for bumps or indents. Should be at the back of the bags somewhere.
On message boards, there are threads devoted to what code will get you what figure.
Since you just want to avoid duplicates, just make sure to purchase baggies with diff codes.
