Review – Hot Wheels X Star Wars Hiway Hauler
These Hot Wheels X Star Wars Real Riders cars (find at Amazon.com*) follow the usual model for the Real Riders subline: Take existing Hot Wheels cars and decorate them with artwork. Personally, I find the Real Riders line to be a lot of fun, so when I saw this Hiway Hauler decorated with Ralph McQuarrie artwork I just had to buy it. Hey, I’m a sucker. I can admit it.
Packaging
How could I ever be unhappy with a Star Wars toy package that features Ralph McQuarrie artwork? The design is nice and simple, yes, like many of the Real Riders toys, and it is effective and works wonderfully. I can totally get why some fans would be 100% happy displaying these toys packaged. Me? I’m ripping this open and getting that car free where I can roll it across the hotel desk.
Excuse the Pics
I’m traveling again, and today’s review photos are the result of cobbling together a photo station using posterboard, tape, lamps, and my iPhone. This means the photos aren’t quite as nice as I would like, but I figured that you guys would be willing to forgive me as long as I take some good pics of toys one of these days. I know the reviews have been infrequent and I’m sorry about that. The last several months have been packed with travel and long work days.
Fantastic Toys!
Mattel does an amazing job with the Hot Wheels series, and since they took on the Star Wars license the company has been producing little die-cast Star Wars toys that are fun and addictive as hell. At this point, if you wanted, you could build a display of nothing but official Star Wars Hot Wheels toys and have a case that looks fabulous. Thanks, Mattel. These are great!
What’s Next?
I am not sure what is next on the list for Star Wars Hot Wheels toys (find at Amazon.com*), but whatever they produce I am sure I’ll want at least a few of the die-cast toys. For now, though, I’ll just be happy playing with the toys I have. After work, which I am off to now. Enjoy the pics!
