Review – Impossible Toys’ Tetra Squadron Rebelor
NOTE: You should really read my Prankstor review before this review (Prankstor review here). Rebelor here is simply another color variant on Prankstor, so all of the basics — inspiration, articulation, basic thoughts — have been covered in that review. Enjoy!
Scratches
Surprisingly, the huge wing surfaces on Rebelor have a few scratches in the plastic that I cannot explain. Looking back at Prankstor (review here) I see there were also scratches on that toy, so something happened at the factory to damage the plastic on both of these toys. It’s just that Rebelor’s blue made these really stand out.
Growing On Me
While the mold will never be the best transforming robot toy in the world — the classics “Seeker” mold, shown below, is a much tighter and more professional design — what we get does look neat and the transformation becomes less of a headache the more I play with the toy. If you’re a collector of “Seekers” then you may find yourself wanting all seven variants of this mold.
That Head Sculpt is Weak
The soft and mushy — and too big! — head sculpt just looks worse and worse the more I play with these toys. What I need is a third party company to make an add-on that gives us a new head for the toy. The head and legs (as I mentioned in the Prankstor review) both need fixes to really improve the look of this toy. Replacement parts are unlikely, but with Impossible Toys closing their doors I wouldn’t be surprised to see another company snatch this basic design and make improvements.
(Okay, I can admit I’m hoping someone snatches this design and improves on it.)
$50/Each
So are the Tetra Squadron toys worth the $50 price tag? That’s tough for me to say, since I’m still opening the toys and the more times I transform and photograph them the more I learn. I continue to hold my final decision on the mold, but I will say that opening the not-Thrust really made me appreciate the little changes Impossible Toys made to that design . . . but that’s a discussion for another review.
Closing Thoughts
We’ll let the photos take command and run this review since I’m pressed for time and already said so much in my Prankstor review. If I weren’t including this series in my next book I might just ignore that I currently am missing one of the seven toys, so take from that what you will.
BUT I am working on a book, so that missing seventh design is really nagging at me. I hope I can find it soon.
