Review – Iron Man (Unmasked) Mini Bust

I reviewed a couple of Gentle Giant’s Iron Man mini busts last week — Iron Man Mark I Mini Bust review here, Iron Man Mark II Mini Bust — and today I thought it would be fun to share the Iron Man (Unmasked) Mini Bust* with you guys. Created by Bowen Designs (official website, at Sideshow Collectibles*), this 7-inch tall mini bust shows just why I own more than a few of Bowen Designs’ different Iron Man statues and mini busts.

(Hint: It’s because the work is freaking sweet!)

Another Amazing Mini Bust

Like the other Bowen Designs Iron Man mini busts I’ve reviewed before — Space Armor Iron Man Mini Bust review, Iron Monger Mini Bust review, Iron Man Hulkbuster Mini Bust review — this Iron Man (Unmasked) Mini Bust* is an incredible work of art and well worth the cost if you’re a collector of Iron Man statues. As with everything from Bowen, the sculpt is tight, paint is fantastic — that red and gold really shines beautifully — and just staring at the work put into the bust makes me appreciate the artists behind the project.

Face Mask Locked Open

What makes this the “unmasked” Iron Man (Unmasked) Mini Bust* is clearly visible in all of the photos: the armor’s face mask is permanently locked open so that we can see Tony Stark’s face. And what is especially entertaining to me is that as soon as I set his next to the Hulkbuster Mini Bust* (review here) I immediately opened the helmet on the Hulkbuster and left him displayed that way. There’s something just kinda neat about both of these statues with Stark’s head revealed.

Gloss and Matte Paints

One great touch is that the statue was painted with bright glosses on all of the armor while Stark’s shown face was painted with matte paints; the difference in paints is instantly obvious — I think the below pic shows off the two paint finishes — and adds a level of quality that I just simple expect from Bowen Designs; they produce art, and this statue is as much a work of art as any of their other statues in my collection.

Closing Thoughts

There’s only so much I can say about the Iron Man (Unmasked) Mini Bust* that isn’t obvious by looking at the pics, so rather than drone on I’m gonna wrap this up and head to work. If I had to itemize my reasons for recommending this to Iron Man fans I think I could boil that list down to a single point:

1. It’s sweet!

Seriously. Another fantastic statue from Bowen Designs (official website, at Sideshow Collectibles*) that looks great with all of the other Iron Man statues and toys in my collection.
