Review – Junk Planet Pescilen Upgrade Kit (for Shattered Glass Junkions)
After yesterday’s look at the Junkticon Blasters (review here) I felt we should stick with the 2012 Shattered Glass Junkions* for a little longer. Fortunately, the Maiden Japan Pescilen upgrade kit was close at hand, so after some time in the light tent for pics . . . here it is!
Hey, we’ve seen this before!
Yes we have, but with some minor differences. I reviewed the Junk Planet Warrior Armor Upgrade back in 2012 and have since come to learn that the older kit was named Kingtiger III. That older kit had a different head and different coloring — and worked great with the Transformers Generations Junkheap* toy — but was effectively identical to this Pescilen kit.
Insecticons!
The 2012 Shattered Glass Junkions* were inspired by the original 1985 Insecticons, and this Pescilen kit makes the Junkion just a little more Insecticn-like with that beefy chest and the new head. The colors are fantastic, and my only complaints are what I had with Kingtiger III: The head’s a little loose and shield is a pain to attach to the toy; don’t add or remove that part too often or it may break.
Closing Thoughts
Between this kit and the Junkticon Blasters (review here) I’ve now got a far cooler team of Shattered Glass Junkions*. I’ve noticed the Maiden Japan Junkion upgrade kits are getting tougher and tougher to locate, so if you want this set I suggest rushing out today and tracking it down. I see it’s in stock now at TFSource, Big Bad Toy Store, and Aces Toy Store, so there are some options for you . . . if you want the set.
