Review – Kotobukiya Cable Statue

This Kotobukiya Cable Fine Art Statue* joined my collection last fall and it’s pretty sweet. Just over 13-inches tall, the statue looks incredible, has a great weight, and even comes with a removable baby Hope. And you’re all in luck! I’m swamped with work and traveling again so this review will be mostly pics of one hell of a nice statue.

A Broken Statue

Unfortunately, my statue has a broken part. No, nothing you can see, but the light effects inside are busted so no lighted eye for me. I can hear something rattling around inside the statue, but nothing I do will make the light work. And rather than try to figure out how to get inside the statue I’ve decided to just let it sit on the shelf and look pretty.

And Pretty it Is!

As you can tell by the pics, the artists at Kotobukiya did a great job designing this Cable statue*. One great sculpt, and it’s clearly Cable (I doubt anyone who knows the character will question who this is). Great cybernetic arm, a fantastic gun, and even the scars on Cable’s face are all perfect.

The Paint Isn’t Perfect . . . but It’s Close!

Where the statue sits in our living room you would never be able to tell at a glance that the paintwork is anything less than spectacular. But as I was cleaning up the photos for this review I spotted tiny imperfections here and there, but to be fair I had the images enlarged to ridiculous sizes. Going back and inspecting those spots on the statue I could see slightly fuzzy spots, but there are no real problems here . . . only that it is less-than-perfect paint. I suspect no one else will even notice the issues when they visit and see the statue on the shelf.

Baby Hope!

As I mentioned, you can add or remove Hope from the statue. The three photos directly below show the armored baby carrier with the protective faceplate in place and removed. You really should click on one of the images of the carrier covered so that you can see Hope’s terrified eyes staring out through the visor. A great touch!

Closing Thoughts

This Cable Fine Art Statue* wouldn’t have been worth the almost-$200 price tag they were originally asking, but if you can find one for about $100 or less — and you’ve been wanting a Cable statue in your collection — then it’s totally worth that price. I wish the light worked in mine, but realistically I wouldn’t have switched it on often anyway so a broken light isn’t a great loss.

Enjoy the pics, guys!

Philip Reed should rearrange all of the statues and toys in the living room again . . . if only because it’s really time to dust.
