Review – Marvel Hot Wheels “Iron Man”
This Iron Man car* from Hot Wheels kicks the hell out of the Maisto-crafted Iron Man toy car that I reviewed back in 2010 (review here). Sure four years has passed since the Maisto car was released, but something tells me that even if Hot Wheels had released this car in 2010 it still would have been a cooler design. Hot Wheels has the best car designers ever!
Go Buy It!
You really shouldn’t be wasting your time reading this review when the entire series of Marvel Hot Wheels toy cars (Amazon.com search*) is out there in stores just waiting to be grabbed. This toy is every bit as awesome as the various DC custom-designed cars Hot Wheels has released, and it is possible that the car is even better than the incredible Bane car (review here). Holding this makes me even more excited to get those Star Wars cars into my hands . . .
Very Shiny
The Iron Man car* is every bit as shiny as you would expect an Iron Man car to be. The metal on metal gives the car a lot of weight, and comparing it to the Maisto car (review here) I can say the Mattel car is clearly the shinier and better of the two designs. I almost don’t want to touch it because fingerprints are really going to show. Is it wrong to polish toy cars?
Translucent Plastic Parts
One nice feature of the Iron Man car* is the translucent blue plastic that forms the Arc Reactor design in the front, the eyeslit windows, and the engines of the car. The above pic shows off those engines and I love how bright lights make the plastic almost glow; it’s a giant lightpipe system right through the car!
No Rubber Tires
The Marvel Hot Wheels toy cars (Amazon.com search*) is on the pricey side — I paid about $5 for this one — but it’s not a part of the Hot Wheels Real Riders series, which means that the car does not have real rubber tires. I suspect that’s because of the licensing fees involved and the custom-designed car, but I can honestly say I would have spent another buck for rubber tires. But I realize I am in a bit of a minority when it comes to really loving those rubber tires.
Closing Thoughts
Even if you don’t normally collect toy cars I think that you should try one of the Marvel Hot Wheels toy cars (Amazon.com search*). Hot Wheels definitely makes the best toy cars for the bucks, and this Iron Man car* will look impressive in any collection of Iron Man toys.
Now it’s time for me to open up Spider-Man . . .
The use of the translucent blue is a great touch.
Not sure if its worth the price though, specially out of a line thats usually a buck a piece. Is the increased price due to the licensing i wonder?
