Review – Marvel SuperHeroes Chocolate Egg
Tuesday afternoon, while walking through the hotel district in Cancun, Gina and I decided to stop and grab drinks at a little convenience store. And as we always do when out on vacation we poked around the shop a bit and, after a few moments, I found myself leaving the store with more than just a drink. This Marvel SuperHeroes chocolate egg, for example, just had to come home with me.
Forgettable Chocolate
Not terrible, but the chocolate egg surrounding the plastic capsule that was holding a tiny Spider-Man toy was not the greatest chocolate that I’ve ever tasted. But then I didn’t spend my buck for the chocolate, so rather than launch into a discussion on chocolate (no need to, because the darker the chocolate the better it is) let’s instead take a look at the little Spider-Man toy that was my “surprise.”
Some Assembly Required
Counting the base, this 1.5-inch tall Spider-Man toy was in a total of five pieces that I had to snap together. Not exactly challenging, but then this was never meant to be more than a tiny trinket for kids so it’s not really fair to compare this to something like a model kit. And hey, Spider-Man was in one piece and ready for his photos in under a minute so I’ll say that as a cheap toy for kids this one’s a winner.
A Simplistic Spider-Man Collectible
It’s basically a capsule machine toy, so the sculpt and paint are just barely passable and come together to make this clearly Spider-Man. As you can see Spider-Man has decided to take up dancing and is captured here getting ready to win the dance off. The spider symbol and eyes appear to be a quick tampo job while the blue looks like it’s the only real paintwork on the red plastic toy.
Really, a Chocolate Egg Review?
Hey, so sue me if I like to have fun and toss random junk up on battlegrip.com from time to time. This little plastic Spider-Man toy isn’t something you should even search for, but if you ever run across a box of cheap plastic Marvel SuperHeroes chocolate eggs then grab a couple for the toys . . . but do not eat the chocolate.
Philip Reed bought two egg toys at the convenience store in Cancun . . . but the second one wasn’t a Marvel toy. What was it? You’ll find out soon enough.
In Europe there’s a line of chocolate eggs called ”Kinder Surprise” that look similar to this. Most of the toys are crappy but sometimes you get the odd gem (and the chocolate is nice.)
Here’s more about them, plus their utterly surreal commercial:
