Review – Masters of the Universe Classics Panthor

After taking a look at the Masters of the Universe Classics Griffin last week (review here) I thought it might be fun to snap photos of the HeMan Masters of the Universe Classics Panthor* to share with you. He may not be flocked like the original toy from the eighties (see he-man.org), but that doesn’t stop the toy from being a great addition to the line.

Great Joints

When comparing the HeMan Masters of the Universe Classics Panthor* to the Griffin the first thing I notice is that Panthor’s joints are tighter and hold poses better than the Griffin’s joints. There’s no real problem with the Griffin, but Panthor is just so much better in this department that it makes the Griffin seem a little weaker. And the tightness of the joints doesn’t seem to be exclusive to this particular Panthor; the review at The Fwoosh also mentions the joints, so I’m thinking maybe something special (and right!) happened with Panthor.

Excellent Paint

Lots of great paint apps on this one, with the best application of all the dark wash that was applied to the purple body. The HeMan Masters of the Universe Classics Panthor* is one action figure that helps demonstrate how much work Mattel is sinking into the line; the eyes, teeth, and mouth paint apps are especially fantastic and really add just the right splash of color detail to the fantastic sculpt of the head. Click the pics and take a close look at the paintwork inside the mouth for an idea of why I think the paint on this toy is excellent.

Accessories

The helmet and saddle are removable and fit the toy nicely. I prefer the look of Panthor with the helmet on — he just looks more fearsome with that horned helmet in place — but I appreciate that the helmet comes off so I can change up the look whenever I feel like it. The accessories aren’t adding a lot to the toy, but they add enough so that it’s more than just a purple cat action figure.

I actually don’t have all that much to say about the HeMan Masters of the Universe Classics Panthor* because it’s a reuse of an existing mold that I’ve already looked at and there are no problems for me to concentrate on and point out.
