Review – Moto-Bot Dump Truck (Blue)

I reviewed a yellow version of this toy way back in 2009 (review posted here), and at that time the toy was a quarter of a century old. Now, eight years later, it is best if we don’t stop and ask: How many years has it been since 1984? Dwelling on how it has been more than three decades since the great robot fad of 1984 isn’t good for any of us.

Made in Macau?

One of the first things I noticed as I snapped photos of the packaging was the “Made in Macau” printed right on the front of the blister. Hey, that’s exactly where the Marchon Road Bots toys were made. I’ve reviewed those Road Bots toys before (see below), and I think I can safely say that battlegrip.com is the best spot online to learn about that line. I have more pics and reviews of the toys than anyone else! But, seriously, is that something I should be proud of?

Anyway, what makes this especially stand out for me is . . . wait for it . . . I’m in Hong Kong when this review goes live and I might just make time to take the ferry to Macau. I bet my dreams of discovering hidden stashes of Road Bots and Moto-Bot toys are not going to come true.

Cheap Transforming Robot Toys

I’ve made no secret of my love for the off-brand and unknown cheap transforming robot toys of the eighties, and the widespread release of the Moto-Bot toys makes these designs ones that many children of the eighties recognize. The toys are definitely not the best transforming robot toys of 1984, but they are fun to play with, inexpensive, and make a great collection once you snag five or six of them and start populating your shelves.

Do You Need Moto-Bot Robots?

Not at all. Really, these aren’t best best of the toys you could spend your energy tracking down. Fortunately, the Moto-Bot toys pop up for sale quite often — and packaged ones aren’t tough to find — so if you do want an oddity or two for your shelves, it shouldn’t take much effort to find this Dump Truck robot. Enjoy the pics, and then see my earlier review for a closer look at the design.
