Review – Pop! Ad Icons Franken Berry

Last year I reviewed this exact same sculpt when I took a look at the metallic SDCC exclusive Pop! Ad Icons Franken Berry vinyl toy (review here). Of course, as you have likely already guessed, that means that this latest Pop! Vinyl series toy review will be mostly photos. But admit it, all you’re here for anyway is the photos. Right?

Pop! Vinyl Fun

I’ll be the first one to admit that Funko’s Pop! Vinyl series of toys (Amazon.com search*) has captured my heart. Ever so slowly I kept getting deeper and deeper into the line, but once I saw the massive display at New York Toy Fair earlier this year (photos posted here) I was doomed. So many awesome designs all grouped together was more than I could resist . . . and now my collection continues to grow as one by one I add another piece to the shelves. These are so cute!

Paint Continues to be a Problem

Throughout each Funko toy review here at battlegrip.com there has been one common thread: the paint is always much worse than the sculpting. I’ve said again and again how I love the sculpts but hate the paintwork, and that continues with the Franken Berry POP! Ad Icons* toy that we’re looking at today. But I’m also noticing something else: Now that I expect the paint to be bad I don’t even really notice it until I start snapping photos and really studying the toys. As long as I just display them there are no problems at all. Yeah, these are clearly mass market collectibles aimed at people who love the cute characters and don’t get bothered at all by the paintwork.

So I’ll Shut My Mouth

Clearly, by the number of toys I’ve shown, I do love the Pop! Vinyl series of toys (Amazon.com search*). The sculpts are so remarkable that they make it so that I can live with the bad paint, and rather than try and chase anyone away from the series I’m instead suggesting that if you’re at all interested in the toys then you should grab one or two.

Funko’s making me quite happy with their line, and I can’t wait to see what special items they have at their booth at San Diego Comic Con next month. Knowing me I’ll probably find something adorable and just have to bring it home. (Actually, I’ll be lucky if there’s just one thing that I want to grab and bring home from the Funko booth.)
