Review – Spider-Man 3 Chozoukei Trading Figures
I grabbed these Spider-Man 3 Chozoukei Trading Figures* at Toy Tokyo during one of my visits over the last year and I’ve finally found time to snap pics and get them onto the site. They’re not spectacular pieces by any means, but they’re nice little collectibles for the Spider-Man fans out there.
Spider-Man
First up is this 2.75-inch tall striding Spider-Man figure. The sculpt is a lot nicer than I expected from a tiny blind box toy, with the web pattern across the suit slightly raised from the surface of the body. Lean, Spider-Man actually looks great and this would be a nice addition to any Spider-Man display.
Even the paint work is nice, with only a few minor blemishes here and there; nothing that’s all that noticeable unless you zoom in close on the toy. The included base is massive, but that’s only because it appears to be a standard base size for the entire line and Spider-Man is so thin.
Sandman
Significantly larger than Spider-Man, the Sandman figure is over 3-inches tall and much, much bulkier than Spider-Man. The two toys are mounted on the same base size, so just looking at the photos should give you an idea of how much larger Sandman is than Spider-Man. And while the paint work is equal to Spider-Man’s paint quality the sculpt isn’t as strong.
Take a look at Sandman’s face in the below photo and you’ll see the ugliest part of the toy’s sculpt. It’s truly terrible! But again, as with the errors on Spider-Man’s paintwork, the Sandman’s horrible face sculpt is only really noticeable when you take macro photos of the toy or hold it in your hands and look closely at the head. That doesn’t mean the ugly face is excused, but if you’re just looking for a mini-Sandman for a much larger collection of statues and action figures this one works out okay.
Closing Thoughts
The Spider-Man 3 Chozoukei Trading Figures* are relatively decent blind box toys and they’re worth tracking down if you’re already collecting Spider-Man toys. But there’s nothing to these that makes them more than just adequate pieces. If you’re after astounding Spider-Man toys you’ll have to search somewhere else.
Philip Reed is unsure of whether or not he’s excited about the idea of a new Spider-Man movie. Of the three released over the last decade only the second one was enjoyable.
They’re a much smaller scale – and I have no personal experience of them yet – but Wal-Mart has a line of Marvel ”Heroic” blind-bag/packed figures you might want to check-out.
There’s a video of them here:

Seems like Sandy’s mits can come in “handy” in a Glyos custom 😉
@ralph – Cool idea! And yes, those hands come off.
