George Lucas knew exactly where to stab my childhood memories when he decided to lose all of his respect for Star Wars during the creation of the prequel trilogy. Luckily for me, and many others out there, Hasbro tries to cure the wounds by releasing fantastic action figure after action figure, focusing — these days more than ever, it seems — on creating more and more stormtrooper and clone trooper variants.

Thank you, Hasbro. I approve. If anyone at Hasbro happens to read this, please don’t stop creating new stormtrooper and clone trooper action figures.

You can tell I’m a complete sucker for stormtroopers when I’m willing to buy a figure that, for reasons I can’t explain, is presented in a uniform for a single planet — Saleucami — in the Star Wars universe. Fine, I’m a sucker. I’ve admitted it so we can move on. (I won’t even mention my collection of stormtrooper/clone trooper Mighty Muggs, since you don’t want to know.)

Like the EVO Trooper that I reviewed last week, I’m gonna jump up and down here for a few seconds and shout out how great this figure is. Starting with the basic Revenge of the Sith clone trooper design, and adding shoulder pads, a harness, and custom paint/insignia, the Saleucami Trooper fits right in with my other Imperial forces and, honestly, makes me very happy. (This is less of a review and more of a love letter to stormtroopers, I know, but I don’t care since I need some good Star Wars figures after a couple of bad ones.)

Taking a close look at the Saleucami Trooper I can say that the sculpting is as good as any other stormtrooper figure I’ve seen Hasbro release over the past couple of years, with a lot of the real detail the helps make the figure unique sculpted into the separate harness piece that, after unfastening at the back, is a removable accessory. (Unfortunately, test-fitting the harness on a few other figures — including my Resolute Cobra Commander who I finally managed to snag — shows that it doesn’t fit anyone quite as well as it does the Saleucami Trooper. Oh well.)

As with many stormtrooper and clone trooper figures, the Saleucami Trooper is basically a chunk of white plastic with a little paint added . . . this time black (not unusual) and red, plus some gray and silver on the harness. It’s a fairly clean paint job, with very little slop over that isn’t even noticable unless you hold the figure right up to your face and examine it closely.

That Damned Harness

As good as the harness makes the figure look, it does negatively affect the figure’s ability to move. The harness’ belt falls right at the toy’s waist, which limits how much the figure can lead forward (the joint at the abdomen works fine, but the harness blocks forward movement). Still, that’s a small price to pay and one I’m willing to accept since, to be honest, this is really my only complaint with the figure.

Closing Thoughts

What can I say? The Saleucami Trooper is a great action figure, with slightly better articulation than the EVO Trooper (only because the EVO Trooper has so many sculpted details that limit the figure’s range of motion), and fits in perfectly with my other stormtrooper figures (as you can see in the image above, where the Saleucami Trooper is shown with three Power of the Force stormtroopers).

He’s not the best new stormtrooper figure, but he’s a great choice if you’re looking to fill out your stormtrooper and clone trooper ranks.

Philip Reed would promise that he’ll stop reviewing stormtroopers and clone troopers but, as you’ve probably already guessed, he would break that promise within 30 days. He will, though, promise to try to limit the number of times he talks about stormtroopers and clone troopers. What kinda limit? Hmmmmmm. No more than a dozen times each day.
