Review – Star Wars Micro Comic Collector Packs
IDW’s new Star Wars Micro Comic Collector Packs are available as single packs* or in display of 24*, but after opening two of the packs and looking at what it would take to collect the complete line I say: Skip these.
Great Idea
I had thought that the Star Wars Micro Comics* was a fantastic idea the moment I heard of it. $4 or $5 (depending on where you shop) for a pack that includes a micro comic, a poster, a trading card, and 3-D glasses? Awesome! What could possibly go wrong?
Difficult to Complete a Set
There are only six different posters and six different comics (reprints of Marvel’s 1977 Star Wars comics adapting the original film) in the set; that doesn’t sound so bad to collect. The trading cards — 36 designs in total — are where things go off the rails. 36 different cards when a display holds only 24 packs? Not to mention how many duplicate posters and comics you have to suffer through in an attempt to collect all 36 cards.
Damn. This seemed like such a wonderful collectible. It’s sad to see the idea damaged by a misbalance of items within the set.
Avoid these unless you’re willing to go through a lot of packs and deal with many, many poster and comic duplicates. This set was a disappointment to me.
Aw, that’s too bad. I was hoping to pick up a couple of these. Sounds like they threw them together as an afterthought, instead of a really cool promotional piece. Darn.
