Review – Star Wars: Rebels AT-DP Driver
The new AT-DP Driver* is another great addition to Hasbro’s Star Wars: Rebels action figure series. What I love most about this line is how it feels like Hasbro’s team focused on playability first, taking a page from the Kenner-style action figures of the late seventies and the eighties to bring us fun toys with five points of articulation. These aren’t for everyone, but anyone who still loves those vintage Star Wars action figures needs to give this line a chance.
Great Helmet Design!
The AT-DP Driver* is new to Star Wars: Rebels, but looking at the character design it’s easy to see how the helmet and costume was influenced by other characters in the Star Wars universe. The strange blend of classic AT-AT Driver and AT-ST Driver helmet — and the gas mask! — works for me. Actually, it works for me very well and I’d like to see how the figure fits inside the AT-DP toy* . . . which I’ll be opening very soon.
We Need These Toys
These Star Wars: Rebels action figures are a throwback to an older age of fun, and these really feel to me like the Hasbro designers are focusing on kids first and collectors second. Personally, I hope that this trend continues for many years to come. With Disney launching new Star Wars films late this year I suspect that sales will be strong and if kids play with all of the toys Hasbro is releasing then we’re set for another decade or so. Here’s hoping this line succeeds!
Enjoy the Pics!
I’m working away on my new Universe Expanded book this weekend, so after snapping these pics and thinking about the other Star Wars action figure reviews I’ve posted over the last week I realized the best thing I can do is leave you guys to enjoy these shots. I very much recommend this figure if you love the look and design of the old Kenner Star Wars figures. If you’re all about hyper-detail and articulation then avoid this because it will make you unhappy.

Phil, I believe this is based off a Ralph Mcquarrie concept for ESB. The helmet looks really close to Mcq’s idea for a snowtrooper.
I was able to find Inquisitor and Kannan today, finally! This line has me hooked!
