Review – Transformers Bumblebee Statue

bumblebee

With a copyright date of 2005, this Palisades Transformers Bumblebee Statue* is growing close to being a decade old. Wow. Can you believe that 2013 is almost over and this statue was released eight years ago? Time is flying . . . I guess. Damn time.

Not the Largest of Statues

At only 4-inches tall this Transformers Bumblebee Statue* is only a little taller than the classic 1984 Bumblebee toy. I usually think of statues as large and impressive works of art that dominate whatever shelf they’re placed on, but there have been enough small statues over the years that I really need to get beyond that line of thinking. But even so, 4-inches is pretty tiny for a statue of Bumblebee; I have Hasbro Bumblebee toys taller than this piece.

It’s Just Okay

I snagged this statue on clearance over four years ago, paying under $15 for the piece. And I’m glad I didn’t spend a lot, because while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it the statue just isn’t as cool as several other Transformers pieces in the collection here at home. Hell, even Diamond Select Toys’ Bumblebee bust is a lot nicer (and bigger) than this small statue. The photos I feel show that the sculpt is decent but nothing spectacular. The base is a nice touch.

Not Much to Say

This Transformers Bumblebee Statue* is a good one to grab if you’re a hardcore Bumblebee fan and collector, but more casual Transformers fans can skip this and not feel any sense of loss at all. Palisades did some good work with the Transformers line — see my War Within Optimus Prime statue review — but this Bumblebee isn’t one of their greater works.

  1. I have the Palisades, Hard Hero, & Diamond Select Bumblebee pieces, and of the three the Hard Hero one is the most faithful to the animation model. The Palisades is just kind of … there

      1. Due to my affinity for the cartoon series the Hard Hero line is probably my favorite. Also if you’re up for a challenge there’s a limited Cliffjumper repaint that Palisades put out.
