Review – Transformers Combiner Wars Rodimus
After the recent reviews of the Takara Transformers Adventure* series Runabout and Runamuck (Runabout review here, Runamuck review here), I thought it might be fun to toss the Combiner Wars Rodimus* in front of the camera and see how it compares to its near-identical clones. You see, as a minor retool and repaint of the Transformers Combiner Wars Blackjack* toy, Rodimus is effectively identical to those two 2015 Takara Battlechargers. Surprisingly, this is one of the rare instances where the Hasbro toy has better detail-work than Takara’s toys.
More Paint Apps
As you can see in the photos, Hasbro’s Combiner Wars Rodimus* has more painted details that Takara’s Transformers Adventure* series Runabout and Runamuck toys. Now part of that could be credited to the fact that the original Battlechargers had such limited details, but Takara could have replicated the red and gold stickers of the originals to give the 2015 toys more detailed paint apps. Why Takara neglected those racing stripes is a question we may never answer.
No Significant Differences
Other than the paint apps and different head, the Combiner Wars Rodimus* is near-identical to the Transformers Adventure* series Runabout and Runamuck toys (Runabout review here, Runamuck review here). The photos here are all you need to see to tell how the toys differ; well, the pics and the prices. As a U.S. Hasbro release, Rodimus is way cheaper than the two Takara Battlechargers.
