Review – Transformers: Power of the Primes “Micronusâ€
I reviewed one of the new Power of the Primes “Prime Master” toys back in December (Vector Prime review here), where I described the decoy armor as a “Pretender-like little robot that’s also packed with the toy.” That Vector Prime toy was one I was wildly happy with — I’m loving all of the little robots that Hasbro is including with Transformers toys these days — so it should come as no surprise that I’m equally happy with Micronus*, the second of the first three Prime Master releases.
Micronus
Up first in the Micronus* pack is the internal robot, a Titan Master-like transforming robot toy that can link up with various other Transformers toys. These little robots have limited articulation, yes, but seeing as how much fun they are, I am totally fine with the articulation we’re offered. At least Hasbro added some paint application to the small robot’s face; the Takara Head Master pack (reviewed here) features far superior paint applications and I wish Hasbro would find a way to bring their releases up to the quality seen in that Takara set.
Cloudburst Decoy Armor
The outer robot, modeled after the 1988 Transformers Pretender, Cloudburst, functions in the exact same way as the other Prime Masters; see my Vector Prime review. The inner robot fits inside the shell, and the shell can then be combined with the included hand weapon to create a larger blaster that can be used by most Transformers toys (see below).
Closing Thoughts
There’s nothing complicated or weird about the Prime Masters, and Micronus* is just as fun to play with as any of the other small Transformers packs that Hasbro has released over the last few years. I was worried that the end of Titans Return would mark a turning point for the worst with Transformers toys, but I can happily report that Hasbro’s Power of the Primes continues all of the playable fun of that earlier series. Great job, Hasbro! It’s awesome to see Transformers toys designed around playability again.
