Review – Transformers: Titans Return Nautica

Included as part of the Chaos on Velocitron box set*, the Transformers: Titans Return Nautica is a variant on the Blurr design (review here), and if you’re at all a fan of repaints and retools, Nautica belongs in your collection of Titans Return toys.

Vehicle Mode

As a variant of the Blurr design, you already know what to expect from Nautica if you’ve already seen the Titans Return Blurr*. The only difference between these two toys in vehicle mode — besides the colors — is the addition of two small wings on Nautica. I know that not everyone is a fan of Hasbro’s extensive use and reuse of designs, but I am a believer that this has always been an important part of the Transformers toyline and am completely happy with Nautica’s look in vehicle mode.

Titan Master Needs Paint!!!

My only complaint with Nautica comes down to a problem I have pointed out in earlier Titans Return reviews: The small Titan Master needs painted details! The small robot (see the below photo) has sculpted details, but the lack of paint for the face and torso of the design cheapens the overall effect. Take a look at the Takara Head-Master Set (review here) and I think you’ll agree that these toys look infinitely better with paint.

Transformation Design and Robot Mode

Again, I suggest you check out my review of the Titans Return Blurr since the two toys are near-identical in design. Everything I said about Blurr applies to Nautica, so if you’re a fan of one then you will want the other.

Wings

As you can tell, the added wings change up Nautica’s look slightly, but not so much that it isn’t immediately noticeable as Blurr. And the wings are removable, so feel free to adjust the design if you’re not a fan . . . personally, I think the wings look great.

Closing Thoughts

I know that many of you missed out on the Chaos on Velocitron box set*, but for those who were lucky enough to score the pack of Titans Return toys, I think you’ll agree with me that this is a fun end to the best Transformers toyline in years. Awesome job, Hasbro, and thank you for focusing on playability and fun once again.
